WHAT IS AQ™?
The AQ Program is Foundations' approach to providing for the full development of potential in each child. Trained teaching professionals conduct child-initiated hands-on activities and long-term projects in a stimulating NAEYC accredited environment. Specialists provide in depth thinking and discovery opportunities in their areas of expertise. Teachers help children meet objectives in cognitive, social-emotional, self-help, communication, and fine & gross motor skills, in addition to their print, book, and phonics (beginning in the preschool program). These developmental skills and experiences are preparation for your child's future abilities in problem solving, creativity, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Activity Planning
Curriculum is personalized for the children in the classroom, not handed down from a corporate office where they can know nothing about your child except their age. Curriculum planning for each of our classrooms is based on:
- Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices;
- Sensitivity to children's personal experiences and interests;
- Knowing that children learn through first-hand observation, play, and direct experience; and
- Careful observation of all their communication-both verbal and non-verbal and their interaction with their environment, other children, and teachers.
Observations
Teachers observe children as they play, paying close attention to reoccurring themes, children's understandings and misunderstandings, developmental issues, and underlying questions. Observations guide curriculum planning, as opportunities are created for children to deepen their thinking, represent their understandings, and encounter new perspectives. Curriculum unfolds from careful observation of the children's passions and pursuits and from team dialogue about themes the children are exploring.
