NATURAL ART

CLAY PLAY

Children love working with clay. It is cool to the touch, and either smooth or rough depending on the type. Best of all, clay works are fired on-site, for parents to enjoy for a lifetime.

Weekly Classes

Included in tuition for all ages (Infants - Elementary)

Foundations' art curriculum plays with the basic fundamentals of art: color, composition, design, line, shape, form, space, value and light, texture and perspective. The basics are incorporated into an ongoing class which is suitable for any skill level. Children try a variety of mediums: clay, paint, pencil, pastel and more. We have our own kiln so children make and send home clay projects as part of their experience. There is a strong focus on the historical aspects of art as well as discovering the techniques of the old Masters. There is hands-on exploration of various cultural art as well as lessons in the major art movements. By introducing children to the fine arts at an early age, they have confidence in their creative abilities and learn to use art as a form of self-expression at a young age.

My goal in working with the children is to open up exciting, creative outlets for them to build self-esteem and self-confidence through exposure to the visual arts. By working in conjunction with the classroom teachers, core ideas are incorporated into the art lessons to reinforce the children's interest, curiosity and energy so that it will become a powerful, creative bridge between the arts and the academics. These tools are building blocks for innovation. Leonardo was a great artist, scientist, and inventor, and each specialty nourished the other. Creativity typically occurs when people who have mastered two or more quite different fields use the framework in one to think freshly about the other. Teaching children to become great synthesizers is the developmental goal that I hope to instill in the students.
