10,000 SQ FT GYMNASIUM
Foundations shares a campus with GAA Central Gymnasium, and Foundations students can take part in optional weekly activities like Gymnastics, Ballet, Tap and Extreme Martial Arts.
The Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta is proud to offer The Academy Dance Program for Foundations students. Students will be escorted from Foundations to GAA Central once a week for classes. The program offers a combination of ballet and creative movement for children beginning at 3 years old. The ballet focus will be on posture, placement, positions and basic barre work. The creative movement aspect will emphasize body awareness and movement with purpose.
At age 5, the dancers will build upon the basic barre work and begin center training. We will introduce proper terminology and French vocabulary that defines all ballet steps. We will include proper age appropriate strength training needed for improved center work.
Dancers should wear either a black or pink leotard, tights, and ballet slippers.
We are excited to share our love of dance with our students and plant seeds in developing dancers!
The director of The Academy Dance Program is Jennifer Nespole. She began her early dance training under Paul Curtis at the Los Gatos Academy of Dance. She later joined the San Jose Dance Theatre where she became a company member and performed professionally in such productions as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Carmina Burana, and Coppelia, to name a few. After moving to San Diego, she began studying under Lynda Yourth (former Balanchine ballerina), and supplemented her training under such notables as Sonia Arova, Gelsey Kirkland, David Howard, and Fernando Bujones. She later became both choreographer and principal dancer for In His Name, a local dance ministry. Jennifer began teaching dance in 1999.
