Fun & Educational Accredited Summer Camp with Degreed Teachers and Low Ratios Foundations Elementary Summer Camp program is for children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade. (We do also provide summer programs for children from infancy through Pre-K as an extension our school-year programs.) Foundations K-5th Summer Camp program combines fun and exciting sports activities with educational activities and events. Lead teachers are degreed teachers, with an average ratio of 1 teacher for every 10 children in the class. Each week includes gymnastics, rock climbing, Spanish, Art, and an additional sport theme along with a Nature educational focus. Foundations is nationally accredited by NAEYC & SACS-CASI and upholds those high standards during the Summer Camp program. Under the supervision of Maria Shaheen, a full-time faculty member at Kennesaw State University, two Kennesaw State University courses will be doing some literacy field work with the students that attend summer camp. Students will participate in creative literacy enrichment activities with their mentors. Weekly rates start at $125-$209/week for part-time enrollments, and full time enrollments (M-F 6:30 am-6:30 pm) are $232/week. Tentative Schedule Sport focuses are recreational, skills-based games and activities, great for beginners and beyond. *May 26th & 27th (Fun in the Sun) - Celebrate being out of school with some time to play, explore, & create!
**Week of May 30th (Tennis / Web of Life) - Students examine the connections between living and nonliving elements in nature while focusing on specific eating behaviors of animals and examples of food webs. Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) visits with exciting information, displays, and animals! Week of June 6th (Disc Golf / Creeks & Ponds) - Students will learn about the ecosystems of local creeks and ponds, starting right in their back yards! They will analyze water samples they collect from home and their favorite places and the school ponds. A field trip to Oregon Park combines a great Disc Golf course and the chance to test the creeks that run through the park. Week of June 13th (Lacrosse / Reptiles) - Are snakes slimy? Touch a live snake and find out! Students will also learn what makes a reptile a reptile and which ones you are likely to encounter in your neighborhood. Get hands on and close up with the critters and crawlers the CNC brings on their visit. Week of June 20th (Volleyball / Rocks & Minerals) – What are the ways that we use rocks and minerals in daily life and how do we get these resources out of the ground? What are the properties of different rocks and minerals and how are they classified? Field Trip: Vulcan Mine Quarry Week of June 27th (Basketball & Owl Wise) - Get up close and personal with Georgia’s native nocturnal raptors. CNC naturalists will bring three species of owls to show the campers and to teach them about the unique adaptations and life histories of this amazing group of raptors. **Week of July 4th (Baseball / Native GA Flora) – Students will learn about the different types of plants and flowers that are native to the Georgia landscape, and how these plants are pollinated, fertilized and cared for. Field Trip: Smith Gilbert Gardens Week of July 11th (Soccer / Hawk Squawk) - Who’s that soaring above your head? Learn about the diverse diurnal raptors that inhabit Georgia. CNC naturalists bring along three native hawk species and teach about their cool characteristics. Learn about this bird of prey, native to Georgia. Week of July 18th (Hockey / Fossils) – Walk through history and learn about the giant dinosaurs, reptiles and mammals of the past that dominated the land, sea and air before becoming extinct millions of years ago. Field Trip: Tellus Science Museum
Week of July 25th (Football / The Universe) - Students will journey through the night sky to view constellations, planets, and the solar system using a portable inflatable planetarium. Learn about the brightness and color of stars, and observe the phases of the moon through hands-on activities using models. Students discover the difference between stars and planets and participate in a hands-on activity to learn about the Earth’s seasons. Includes an on-site visit from a portable Star Lab!
Week of August 1st (Mixed Martial Arts / Pollution Solutions) - This hands-on experience demonstrates the various types of pollution and their causes and effects. Students then discover some possible solutions and recognize ways to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Field Trip: Chattahoochee Nature Center Week of August 8th (Rock Climbing / Native Americans) - Explores how Native Americans used the land, river, wildlife, and other natural resources for hunting, farming, medicine, shelter, clothing, transportation, music, and games. CNC visits to bring authentic, hand-on displays and games.
