SPANISH
EL PROGRAMA (THE PROGRAM)
Children are introduced to Spanish in a fun-filled immersion setting. Through a developmentally-appropriate curriculum, children will learn Spanish the natural way, through hearing, doing, repeating and playing. The classes are organized around themes that are part of a child's daily life such as colors, numbers, animals, etc and gradually increasing in complexity and themes.
LAS CLASES (THE CLASSES)
Chiquititos (The little ones) Ages 2-4
Introduce new Spanish vocabulary on every session
Reinforce learned vocabulary with songs in Spanish
Reading time in Spanish
Common phrases
Age appropriate fun games and activities, with pretend play and art time
Take home sheet that provides vocabulary and activities to review at home
Sessions are 30 to 45 minutes on Wednesdays at 2:00 with a max of five children per session. (4 sessions per month)
Grandes (The older ones) Pre-Kindergarten through 3rd Grade
Introduce new Spanish vocabulary on every session
Spanish reading time
Introduction to basic grammar concepts like articles, pronouns, some verbal conjugations and sentence structure
Common phrases
Age appropriate games and activities related to lessons
Learning aspects of Hispanic cultures
Take home sheet that provides vocabulary and activities to review at home
Sessions are 45 minutes to 1 hour on Tuesdays at 2:00 with a max of ten children per session. (4 sessions per month)
EL PRECIO (THE PRICE)
The cost is $50 per child per month (with a $15 discount for siblings) and a one-time $25 registration fee.
We have an open door policy where parent participation is encouraged.
LOS BENEFICIOS (THE BENEFITS)
Children who learn a foreign language beginning in early childhood demonstrate cognitive advantages over children who do not.
Children who learn a foreign language in early childhood (between birth to 8 yrs old):
- Read sooner than monolingual children
- Become better problem solvers
- Tend to be more creative
- Score higher on standardized tests
- Experience advanced mental development
- Develop a deeper understanding of their own and other cultures
- Have access to a greater number of colleges and/or career opportunities
- Most often speak the second language with native pronunciation
BIOGRAPHY
Tia Roxana (Ms. Roxana) is the instructor of the Spanish Program for FFTF. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English-Spanish Interpretation and Translation Major from Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso from her home country Chile. During her university years, Tia Roxana took a wide variety of courses including Linguistics, Grammar, and Semantics in both Spanish and English. Her desire to continue to improve her English language skills and her adventurous personality brought her to the Georgia in 2003. She took part in a project where she became the Spanish voice for the MARTA trains, and she provided interpretation services for WSB TV news into Spanish.
Tia Roxana's two big passions are languages and children. Los ninos have always been a big part of her life and teaching Spanish provides the ideal opportunity to combine those two passions. She would like to further her education by pursuing an Early Childhood Education degree and learning a third language. Tia Roxana resides in Acworth with her husband Tim and her son, Liam, who attends Foundations.
