BODY BASICS
Body Basics is a physical education program created at Foundations, customized and designed specifically for children from infancy through school age classes. As children are learning about who they are in relationship to others, awareness of their physical body is a crucial step in their overall education. All activities and benchmarks are based on the National Standards for Health & PE, but adapted for younger children.

Angie Tuten, BS ECE and former competitive gymnastics coach & gymnast, taught & designed the program in its debut year at Foundations in 2007. The activities are age-appropriate for each class, focused on helping children develop greater awareness of their bodies and what their bodies can do. Flexibility, strength, coordination, and respect for our bodies are emphasized through exploratory exercise and skill building. The program subtly introduces the importance of physical fitness & health at the age when it can make a long-term difference in a child's future attitude towards exercise. Lindsay Arnold, BS Health & PE P-12, now teaches the Body Basics lessons, using her extensive coaching and physical education experience to adapt the lessons as needed each week, to hold the children's interests and help them meet their Physical objectives.
